Wellness screening for older dogs and cats

A full health check to help catch issues early and keep your pet feeling well

Pets age faster than we do, which means they're more likely to develop health problems as time goes on. A wellness screen is a comprehensive medical check for your cat or dog that can help spot health issues early, giving you complete peace of mind.

The assessment can catch early signs of illness such as kidney disease, arthritis, or dental disease, conditions that often develop quietly over time. In fact, two out of three* pets have health issues their owners don’t know about.

By catching changes early, we can act quickly, and help your pet enjoy more happy, healthy moments with you. Our skilled nurses will look after your pet during the appointment, which takes about 30 minutes.

Our comprehensive wellness screening includes:

  • Urine and blood tests+
  • Weight and joints check
  • Teeth and gums inspection
  • Eyes, ears, skin, and coat exam
  • Joint and mobility assessment
  • Vaccination status check and booster recommendations
  • Parasite protection review
  • Advice on nutrition and preventative care
  • General health discussion covering appetite, behaviour, habits, and exercise.
Wellness screening is for pets who show no sign of illness – please book a veterinary consultation if your pet is unwell.

  • Wellness screening is recommended for healthy adult cats and dogs and includes a physical exam, a complete clinical history, urine testing, a blood pressure measurement (if advised) and blood testing for all common organ function-related diseases including kidney disease, liver disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and overactive thyroid (cats only).
  • Wellness screening is suitable for healthy adult cats and dogs. If your pet is showing any signs or symptoms of disease, or any abnormal behaviour, please book a consultation with your vet instead.

    Eligible pets are classed as:

    • Cats over 7 years old
    • Dogs over 5 years old
    • Giant breeds of dog (Great Dane, Mastiff, St. Bernard, etc.) over 3 years
  • We recommend having a wellness screen every year. Six months after your pet’s annual vaccination boosters is an ideal time.
    • Ideally, your pet should fast for 12 hours before their appointment (water is fine).

    • Bring a fresh urine sample in a clean, dry container. If you need help collecting one, just ask your practice.

    • Make sure whoever brings your pet in knows about their habits and daily routine.

If you're not able to do these things, don’t worry — attend the appointment as planned and our team will advise you.

  • You’ll usually receive your results within 10 days. If all is well, you will receive a text or email from your practice team. If there are any abnormal results, the practice team will be in touch to arrange for a vet to discuss the next steps. This may include a recommendation for a change of diet, medication or further investigations.
  • If your pet needs extra care, our team will guide you through the next steps with clear advice and support. When we catch a condition early, it means we can provide the right care quickly, giving your pet the best chance to recover and thrive. The cost of further care is not included in the cost of a wellness screen.
  • Our wellness screening costs ÂŁ85, and Pet Health Club members receive a 25% discount for Essential members and 35% discount for those on Plus. From time-to-time we also may have an offer available. Please visit the Offers page to see what’s available.
